Laboratory Assistant II

Janie joined the McCowan Animal Behavior Lab as a laboratory technician in the summer of 2022. Her work focuses on behavioral data collection of rhesus macaques at the California National Primate Research Center. She is very passionate about comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to research. She began her research journey at the Pennsylvania State University, where she completed her undergraduate education in Psychology, Anthropology, Sexuality, and Gender Studies. She later moved abroad to complete her Master’s degree in Germany at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern. There she studied Cognitive Science with an emphasis on Neuroscience, Cognition, and Linguistics. She acquired additional research experiences through internships with the Comparative Cognition Lab at UC San Diego and the Integrative Biology Department at Oklahoma State University. In addition to her research experiences, Janie has also worked clinically with children and as a Registered Behavior Technician in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, creating art and crafts, nature walks, and the company of animals.
